The softwares
It would be impossible to create a website without using specialized software (especially for underwater photography that requires special attention). For those wondering where to get the software, we bought them on the manufacturer's website. For the majority of them, there is a demo version can be downloaded for use for 30 days.
HTML
First, we use Adobe Macromedia Dreamweaver for a web editor. This is an excellent program called « WYSIWYG » with the opportunity to work in HTML code, which is very interesting when we want to clean the codes in the web page. An essential tool, user friendly, but expensive, like many Adobe products!
JPEG, GIF & TIF
Our photos must be resized to be uploaded on the web. Our originals are in JPEG format of 2 and 3 Megapixels of 1 MBytes. As for underwater photography, they must be edited for the prime reason that the wavelength in the red cannot penetrate deep into the water, and the photos are always a shade of blue-green. Corel Paint Shop Pro can fix this problem 90% of the time. The best scenario is a photo of calm water and shallow water.
SWF
I use the software A4Desk Flash Photo Gallery Builder for final assembly of the photos in Flash format (SWF). This software is inexpensive, simple to use and only download the thumbnails when initialize and not all photos. You must have installed on your computer the playback software « Flash Player » to view these files. It is easier to show photos by dividing them into albums. It is also possible to add music.
FLV
Adobe Premiere Elements is an excellent software for editing video files. This software includes a toolkit of several filters to improve the quality of video under water. Since version 3, it is possible to create files in Flash format (FLV). A gem! However, you need a fairly powerful computer with good graphic card for this software to remain fluid in use.
FLV presentation
Socusoft Web Video Player is a presentation of videos in Flash format (FLV). Its strength is the ability to present multiple video files into a single presentation. For example, if we have four video montages, it is no longer necessary to have four web-pages for each but rather on the same page.
Tip: For those who want to design a website, it is much easier to start with a template that can be customized later by inserting our own photos and info. Fortunately, there are several websites offering templates of various kinds. Free and some very affordable.
